Repair or replace your laptop?

Repair is usually the better choice when the fault is isolated and the repair costs less than half the laptop’s replacement value. Replace when the motherboard, screen and storage all need work, or when the laptop no longer meets your software needs.

Repair is usually right when

• The laptop is otherwise fast enough and only one part failed.
• The screen, battery, keyboard, charging port or storage needs replacement.
• The repair quote is less than half the price of a comparable new laptop.
• Your data and software are already set up and you want to keep them.

Replace is usually right when

• The motherboard is faulty and the quote is close to a new laptop.
• Liquid damage affected multiple subsystems.
• The CPU or GPU is too slow for the work you do.
• The hinge, chassis and screen are all damaged.

How do I decide between repair and replacement?

Compare the all-in repair quote with the price of a comparable new laptop. If the repair is less than half the replacement cost and the laptop still meets your needs, repair usually wins.

Is it worth repairing a 5-year-old laptop?

Often yes for a screen, battery, SSD or keyboard fault. It is usually not worth it if the motherboard and several other parts need work.

Can you upgrade an old laptop instead of replacing it?

An SSD and RAM upgrade can make an older laptop usable again for browsing, office work and classes. We check compatibility before quoting.

What happens to my data if I replace the laptop?

We can migrate the drive or back up the data before you move to a new machine. Backup consent is taken before any risky work.
