Why "it is the internet company" is usually wrong
Your ISP provides a fixed speed to your router. What happens between the router and your device is a separate problem. If the speed is fast near the router and slow in one room, the issue is WiFi coverage, not your ISP.
The 15-minute test
Step 1: Run a speed test next to the router. Step 2: Run the same test in the slow room. Step 3: Check if the router is inside a cabinet, behind a TV, or near a metal object. Step 4: Check which WiFi band your device is using (2.4GHz vs 5GHz). Step 5: Count how many devices are connected simultaneously.
What the results mean
If the speed near the router is fast but the far room is slow: coverage problem. If both are slow: ISP or router problem. If only one device is slow: device problem. If the router is inside a cabinet: move it first.
