What an SSD upgrade costs at Byte Sherlock
Labour is ₹999. The SSD itself is at cost+10%, which means you see the exact price we paid plus 10%. A 256GB SATA SSD is ₹1,400-1,800. A 500GB NVMe SSD is ₹2,200-3,200. We clone your existing drive so your files, apps and settings stay exactly as they are.
What a new laptop costs
A new laptop with an SSD starts at ₹32,000-38,000 for a decent brand (HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS). You then spend 2-3 hours setting it up, installing apps, and copying files.
The 5-year maths
SSD upgrade: ₹999 labour + ₹2,500 SSD = ₹3,499. Same laptop lasts another 3-5 years. New laptop: ₹35,000+. If your processor and RAM are adequate, the SSD upgrade wins every time.
When an upgrade is NOT enough
If your laptop has 4GB RAM and a dual-core processor from 2015, an SSD will help but it will not fix everything. In that case, add RAM (₹399 labour + RAM at cost+10%) alongside the SSD. Total: under ₹5,000 for a laptop that feels genuinely fast.
When you actually need a new laptop
If the motherboard is failing, the screen is cracked AND the battery is swollen, or the hinge is broken beyond repair, a new laptop makes more sense. We will tell you honestly.
