Phone Not Charging: Do’s and Don’ts

If your phone isn't charging, try using a different cable and outlet to rule out simple issues.

What to do

1. DO

   Do test a safe, known-working cable and outlet

   to ensure the issue isn't with the charger

   Verify the cable and outlet work with another device.

2. DO

   Do note whether charging is intermittent

   to help identify the problem

   Check if the charging light flickers or the battery icon changes.

3. DO

   Do stop if the phone or plug overheats

   to prevent damage or fire

   Unplug the charger and let the phone cool down.

   Do ask for a cable-versus-port check

   to determine the source of the issue

   Request that the technician test both.

   Do get a written quote before chargeable work

   to understand the costs

   Ensure the quote includes parts and labor.

   Do check for a 90-day labour warranty

   to protect your repair investment

   Verify the warranty is in writing.

What not to do

1. DON’T

   Don't force a loose connector

   to avoid damaging the port

   Gently clean the port instead.

2. DON’T

   Don't put a metal pin in the port

   to prevent electrical shock or damage

   Use a soft brush or cotton swab for cleaning.

3. DON’T

   Don't assume a new battery is required

   to avoid unnecessary expenses

   Have the technician diagnose the issue.

   Don't approve a port replacement without diagnosis

   to ensure the correct repair

   Request a detailed diagnosis and quote.

5. DON’T

   Don't try to fix the port yourself

   to prevent further damage
